These are the tragic Brides of Bluebeard who were not able to learn their new husband’s evil secret before succumbing to their fates. Sculpted of stone clay over bamboo, painted and varnished, with mohair, stringed joints, and clothing of cotton lawn and silk. They hang from cotton string that is attached to their heads, not their hair.
